With all the bad news going on around us, I am really happy that I can share something encouraging. After a summer break, the Bethel Chapel Youth Group is now up and running. This is good news because every Friday night positive things are happening for our young people right here in Juniata.
Bethel’s Youth Group is not the only good activity available in Juniata, but let me explain why it can be the most important. Instead of just having fun, these young people also learn how to have a life-changing relationship with their Creator.
I have been a Christian for over 50 years, and I have never wanted to go back on my decision to follow Christ. In fact, I have never met anyone who was sorry that they gave their life to Christ. I have, though, met many Christians who were sorry that they didn’t start following Christ sooner. That’s why a Christian youth group can be so valuable.
The sooner a person comes to Christ, the fewer regrets he or she will have later in life. When the writer of Psalm 71 was getting up in years he wrote, “O God, You have taught me from my youth, and I still declare Your wondrous deeds” (Psalm 71:17). I’m so glad that the Lord found me while I was still young! I want that same feeling for the young people in our neighborhood, too
Bethel’s Youth Group is an introduction to the God of the Universe and the Savior of the human race. It can be a life-changing experience. If you know any young people, tell them that they have been invited to Bethel’s Youth Group which meets at Bethel Chapel Church on the corner of “K” and Lycoming Streets.
Here are the details: It meets on Friday nights. From 7:00 to 8:30 pm there is a JR. YOUTH GROUP for those in the 1st to 6th grades. There will be games, snacks, singing, and a lesson from the Bible. Directly following that program, the SR. YOUTH GROUP meets from 8:30 to 10:30 pm, for those who are in the 7th to 12th grades.
In addition to just hanging out, there will be activities like scavenger hunts, “snowball” fights, and community service projects. They will do something different every Friday night, but there will always be a challenge from the Bible and the opportunity to make friends with other young people who are trying to do the right thing.
All of the Youth Group activities are free and are under adult supervision. Parents are always welcome to attend and watch some, or all, of the activities. If you have any further questions, feel free to call Derick Scudder at 215-533-4395.
