Dear Church Family,
We have heard the Christmas story so often that it has become normal to us. Actually, the situation was anything but normal. It’s weird to worship a baby. Have you ever thought about that? Imagine visiting a hospital maternity ward and finding a diverse crowd surrounding one particular baby, bowing down at its cradle and leaving extravagant gifts behind. Crazy, right? A newborn doesn’t have followers or accomplishments.
If you saw a newborn being worshiped, you would have to ask the question:”What makes that baby so special?” That’s the question that was asked on the first Christmas– and it is still being asked today.
No baby is worshiped for his accomplishments, only for his position. This is what made Jesus special. He would go on to accomplish much–living a perfect life, rescuing sinners by dying for them on the cross, and defeating death with His resurrection. But just the person and position of Jesus alone demands our worship. He is the Creator and that alone gives Him honor. His future as the undisputed ruler of this earth demands our reverence. This is the Baby who will be the King. This is one newborn who deserved to be worshiped at His birth and still deserves our worship through the ages.
Especially at this time of year, even “Jesus followers” often forget to be “Jesus worshippers.” Jam-packed schedules and mile-long to-do lists seem to rule the day. The contrasts of that first Christmas point us back to the center of Christmas. God became Man. A virgin was pregnant. The King was lying in a feeding trough. Fill your Christmas this year with the unique joy of worshiping Jesus Christ.
Merry Christmas from Bethel Chapel! Enjoy a Christmas season that is full of Jesus Christ!
