Bethel Chapel Church is a Bible-teaching church focused on the Good News that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. We are a racially diverse, multi-generational group of people who want to know Jesus better. Originally founded in 1899, we are thankful for God’s faithfulness over the last one hundred years. With grateful hearts, we thank Him!

What kind of church is Bethel?

Today there are thousands of different kinds of churches. So you might be wondering, what is this church like? It’s hard to give a short answer, but here are a few things you should know about our church:

First, we are focused on the good news that God made a way for us to know Him through Jesus. There are a lot of different things that a church can focus on—political issues, fundraising, ceremonies, big events; the list goes on and on. But here at Bethel every issue and every topic takes a back seat to who God is and what He has done for us. As a human race, we are worse than flawed. We all have a core of selfishness and evil that the Bible calls sin. Every single one of us is a sinner, no matter how good we think we are or how much we try to cover it up. Being a sinner means that we are far from God, enemies of God, and ignoring Him. Because of our sin, we start out lifeless, hopeless and on our way to hell. God made a way to change all of that when Jesus died on the cross! Jesus took the punishment for sin on the cross that you and I deserved. With our sin out of the way, now we can have a friendship—a closeness to God. There is no better news! There is no other topic or idea that we get more excited about! If you are unsure about where your relationship with God stands, please talk to any of the members here at Bethel. We would be glad to share how God has changed our lives by forgiving us of all the wrong things we’ve ever done—and how He can do the same for you!

Second, we teach and study the Bible. The Bible isn’t just another book. The Bible was written by God. (2 Tim 3:16) He used human authors in different places and different time periods, but the Bible is really written by God Himself–and this completely, totally reliable book (Psalm 19:7-8) is all we need in order to follow Him (2 Timothy 3:16-17). That makes the Bible very important! You’ll notice that most of the sermons in our church are verse by verse explanations of different parts of the Bible because we want you to see what the Bible says. We encourage you to read, study, and understand the Bible, not just listen to what someone says about it. The Bible says that by hearing and obeying the Bible we grow closer to God. (Psalm 119:9-11, James 1:22) If you don’t have a Bible or would like to start a one-to-one Bible study with someone, please let us know

Third, we get to know each other. The Bible says that if we really understand God’s love, then we will love the people around us. (I John 4:12, 19) In other words, if you don’t love people, you don’t really love God! Our church is a place where we show off God’s love by loving each other. We don’t do it perfectly, but we try. Most Sunday mornings we meet in small groups so we can practice caring about each other. We listen to each other, pray for each other, and help each other any way we can. Love isn’t just a feeling, love is caring about other people more than you care for yourself—Jesus taught us that! On Wednesday nights we share what God has been teaching us and what we’re struggling with, and then we spend time talking to God about those struggles. If you have any other questions, please ask! We’d be glad to help you anyway we can. We hope to see you on Sunday!
